THE POWER OF FINDING ONE’S TRUE IDENTITY:  IN SEARCH OF THE AUTHENTIC SELF

What you’ll learn:

  • How to guide clients to their greater potentiality by unearthing their authentic selves
  • Participants will gain a greater understanding of the unconscious manifestation of unproductive and self-defeating behaviors
  • The importance of discovering engrained survival skills
  • Addressing how substance use disorders can block the process of identifying one’s true identity

Rev. Dr. Ted Wiard is a licensed professional clinical counselor, certified grief counselor, and ordained minister. He is the co-author of Witnessing Ted: The Journey to Potential through Grief and Loss. Ted is the founder and Director of Golden Willow Counseling, and Golden Willow Retreat Center (a non-profit emotional healing center focused on grief, loss, trauma, and recovery). He is also the clinical director for Rio Grande Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program and the program director of the Southwestern College Trauma, Grief, and Renewal Certificate.

Chris Hoff, PhD, LMFT

NARRATIVE THERAPY: CREATING LIVES THAT ALIGN WITH ONE’S HOPES AND DREAMS

What you’ll learn:

  • Participants will gain a greater understanding of how clients organize their inner and outer lives through story
  • We will explore how these stories affect a client’s actions, careers, relationships, and well-being
  • Participants will see how, through the use of narrative inquiry, people’s collective wisdom can be drawn upon to counter problems including substance misuse

Dr. Hoff is the Founder and Executive Director of the California Family Institute (CFI), located in Orange County, CA. Established as a community counseling center that provides desperately needed low-cost counseling services in southern California, CFI is a nonprofit organization with a focus on community service and the development of research and training for those mental health professionals interested in post-structuralist, post-oppositional, and compositionist therapy approaches.

Patrick Mirabal Shendo

Our CEU event will also feature a performance by Vista Taos’ treasured Grammy award-winning floutist. Mr. Shendo will be leading us on a meditational journey with Native American musical accompaniment.
