All-Natural Ways to Have More Energy

If you asked most people, they’d probably confess that they hit a low point at least once during each day. Feeling tired and drained leaves you lacking the enthusiasm to check off all the tasks on your to-do list, and could even put you behind the curve on your personal or professional accomplishments. Instead of reaching for a sugary energy drink or pouring yourself yet another cup of coffee to power through a slump, what are some healthier ways to provide a much-needed energy boost?

1. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is often one of the first things to fall by the wayside when we get caught up in our hectic schedules. When you aren’t diligent about setting boundaries to improve your work-life balance, you could end up working late into the night, cutting into the time you should be spending at rest. If you frequently roll out of bed still feeling lethargic or grumpy, the amount of shuteye you catch each night should be the first thing you look at.

First, set a consistent sleep schedule for yourself. Go to bed and get up at the same times each day, even on weekends, vacations and holidays. If you find you have trouble falling asleep or sleeping comfortably through the night, create a relaxing bedtime routine that includes taking a warm bath, avoiding screen time and doing gentle stretches to help you get in the right mindset for bed.

2. Create Time for Self-Care

Chronic stress can take a toll on almost every area of your life, including the amount of physical and mental energy available to power through your daily tasks. If stress is affecting you, it could manifest itself in ways like making it tough for you to concentrate during the day and power down at night. It may not be realistic to eliminate all sources of stress from your life, but you can manage stress by carving out time in each day to do self-care activities you enjoy, such as meditating, exercising, reading or doing yoga.

3. Eat a Balanced Diet

The foods you add to your plate can significantly influence how much energy you have throughout the day. Highly processed foods that are high in sugars and carbs may give you a temporary boost, only to cause a crash an hour or two later. Instead, make sure your diet largely consists of a variety of fresh produce, supplemented with whole grains, lean proteins and dairy products such as yogurt. These foods will keep you consistently fueled throughout the day, without leaving you feeling sluggish or slow.

4. Stay Hydrated

Giving your body the water it needs can help give you more energy throughout each day. Many people are dehydrated without realizing it, but you can combat that by always keeping a canteen or glass of water close at hand. That way, you’ll have something to sip on within your line of sight, and you won’t feel tempted to opt for soda or coffee instead.
