Cowboy Player Cited in Dallas Texas for Public Intoxication

Vista Taos - Tuesday, April 19, 2011

Fans of the Dallas Cowboys may lose respect for one of the players, Bryan McCann, after he was cited and arrested for public intoxication while in Dallas, Texas. While this is McCann’s first arrest, the nature of the charges stem worries on whether alcohol rehab is the next step for this football star.

McCann was arrested in the early hours of Saturday, March 19th among reports that he had become belligerent with officers over their refusal to hand over property belonging to a friend of McCann who had just been arrested. Reports fail to mention the cause of the friend’s detainment. According to law, a person may be arrested for public intoxication if they appear to be a danger to themselves or others. Officers observed that McCann had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and that his breath smelled of alcohol. McCann was sent to the detoxification center in Dallas, Texas and was released the following day.

While McCann maintains his innocence in the matter, claiming that he was not intoxicated and did not pose a threat to himself or others, it is highly unlikely that an officer of the law would arrest a person without due cause. Court proceedings in Dallas, Texas will follow, yet it seems that alcohol rehab may be a better choice in this case. A person that becomes aggressive and belligerent, especially in a public place and directed towards a police officer, clearly does not realize the effect that alcohol has had on their system and behavior. People in this inebriated state are more likely to cause injury to themselves, or to engage in risky sexual behavior. There is also the increased chance that, since the person does not admit to being intoxicated, they will attempt to drive a car, definitely putting themselves and others on the road at great risk of being injured, or even killed.

Entering alcohol rehab at this point would be a wise step, both for his safety and the sake of his career. At this stage, McCann has not acknowledged the problem, and alcohol rehab could be the key to addressing it before it becomes unmanageable. Contact Vista Taos Addiction Center to learn about the programs available to assist in overcoming alcoholism.

Patricia Jordan - Friday, February 25, 2011

Brett Favre is no stranger to the news as of late but this time, it is his younger sister Brandi who has taken the spotlight. She and four other people were arrested after police discovered the group had been using the bathtub in a condo in Diamondhead, Mississippi to manufacture methamphetamine for distribution. They also found about nine grams of the drug already made. That amount has a street value of $150.00. Brandi Favre and the rest of the group were arrested and taken to a local hospital prior to being brought into the police station for booking.

Meth is such a dangerous drug. Not only is it a highly addictive drug that takes a serious toll on your health, it is incredibly dangerous to make. So often, we read that there were explosions as a result of a meth lab gone wrong. The damage can be severe and often times, children are injured. There have been measures taken at the pharmaceutical level to slow the sale of the main drug used in making meth: pseudoephedrine. Despite efforts to keep it out of the hands of those who misuse it, meth manufacturing still continues all over the United States.

Meditation: The Key to Successful Drug Treatment

Vista Taos - Thursday, November 18, 2010

Recently in Arlington Texas, a driver under the influence of alcohol struck a police officer in his vehicle at a high rate of speed.  The officer was treated for his injuries at a local hospital and is expected to be fine.  However, the outcome is not always that pleasant.  Often, those who drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol end up facing vehicular homicide or manslaughter charges for their decision to get behind the wheel while inebriated.  It’s not if you get caught while driving while intoxicated….it’s when you get caught.

Drug treatment centers work with patients who need assistance with alcohol addiction.  Alcohol is definitely a drug and it remains one of the most commonly abused legal drugs in the United States.  Recovering from alcohol addiction is a lifelong process, but Vista Taos Renewal Center helps people get started by providing alcohol and drug treatment programs.

Have you ever considered the impact that complementary therapies and natural methods can have on addiction?  What about meditation?  Someone entering drug treatment may not think that meditation will make any difference regarding their treatment, but the studies are there; and they’re proving that meditation can be an enlightening experience for addiction therapies of all types.  These therapies are an important aspect of treatment as they complement the counseling process.

Meditation, simply explained, helps patients become more in tune with their bodies and minds.  When we take the time to listen, our bodies will speak.  When we know what it is we need, then we can push forward.  Meditation gives a person the time to quiet the mind from routine distractions.  It provides a platform to be at peace by learning to focus on the self making the entire body feel enhanced and rejuvenated.  Being able to meditate and clear your mind of thoughts can help a recovering addict cope with cravings.  There are so many positive reasons to consider meditation as a combined therapy approach in drug treatment.

Do all drug treatment centers offer meditation as a therapy option?  No.  Drug treatment centers are not all created equal.  If you’re interested in a more holistic, natural and an overall better experience a drug treatment center, contact the counselors at Vista Taos Renewal Center and learn about meditation and the other complimentary therapies that have proven to help patients ease out of addiction.

South Dallas Drug Bust Leaves 13 People Facing Federal Charges

Vista Taos - Thursday, November 04, 2010

The end of September brought the conclusion to a drug distribution ring in a Dallas Texas neighborhood.  A home on Hatcher Street was found to be used in the manufacturing and distribution of heroin and cocaine.  Another home on Jamaica Street was also found to be making and selling the drugs.  Items that were found during the raid were expected: large quantities of drugs, cash and a load of firearms, including a machine gun.  This specific drug ring had been in operation since 2008.  For just 2 years of running a business, they all face charges that can carry as much as 20 years behind bars.  Does it have to come to this before they see the light?

In many cases, addiction rehabilitation starts because someone gets caught or life has hit rock bottom.  Often, the law requires that the person attend a drug abuse treatment center, or it may be that a family is torn apart by a loved one’s addiction and cannot begin to mend until the addicted family member agrees to treatment.  These eye-openers serve as a tough intervention for someone to seek the help of professionals.  However, success depends on the person wanting to break free from addiction.  Vista Taos, which is not too far away from the great state of Texas, is settled in the small, peaceful town in Taos, New Mexico.  They provide addiction treatment to help begin the healing process.  This quiet, exclusive drug abuse treatment center sets the stage for a successful recovery.  Surrounded by nature, harmony and expert staff, come to Vista Taos to have a total mind and body recovery experience.

Drug treatment should not have to begin in jail.  You can make the choice to get help for yourself or a loved one before law enforcement makes the decision.

Marijuana Charges Leaves Texas College Football Player in Hot Water

Vista Taos - Friday, October 29, 2010

Willie Jefferson was the receiver for Baylor University’s football team in Waco, Texas.  After his second arrest for drug charges within weeks of each other, the Baylor football player has been ‘fired’ from the team.  The sophomore was arrested in Texas for marijuana possession twice; once while he was the driver and fellow Baylor receiver Joshua Gordon was a passenger.  Both were arrested that evening on drug charges.

When celebrities like actors and athletes get caught up in drug problems, once it enters the public light, it becomes difficult to shed that association.  Usually, it’s expected to see them enter a drug abuse treatment center to try and clear their name.  Sometimes it’s successful, but other times it is just for appearances.  Unfortunately, it’s easy for celebrities to slip into a pattern of addiction.  That’s why it’s important for them to take treatment seriously.  They’re not immune to losing their celebrity status…especially athletes.  A bad run with drugs or other legal troubles could mean never being signed to another team if the current one terminates your contract.

Vista Taos Drug Abuse Treatment center wants everyone, no matter what their social status, to experience a life without addiction.  Their programs are led by licensed experts in the field of addiction.  One drug abuse treatment center is not necessarily the same as the next, so do your homework.  If you or a loved one have an addiction and are ready to start the journey towards a new way of life, consider Vista Taos Drug Abuse Treatment Center offering primary and extended care residential treatment to meet each individual’s needs.

Athlete from Dallas Texas Arrested for Public Intoxication

Vista Taos - Wednesday, October 27, 2010

As reported from the associated press in Plano, Texas— athlete Mike Riberio was recently arrested this October for a misdemeanor charge of public intoxication.  He was at a restaurant in Dallas when he was placed in police custody.  Riberio is the forward for the Dallas Texas Stars.  He was one of three arrested and released from jail..  Each athlete was booked.  No news yet how this will affect his sports career or if he will be benched for any games.

Alcohol treatment centers really have their work cut out for them when it comes to providing exceptional alcohol rehabilitation.  It is the most widely abused drug in the country and is easily  and legally accessible.  It exists in almost every social climate, making sobriety a tough battle to tread.  Twelve hours from Dallas Texas is one of the premier alcohol treatment centers (among other addiction treatment services)  Vista Taos Renewal Center. Thee staff know how difficult the journey is when fighting alcoholism.  How do you know when you’ve reached the need for assistance?

Most alcohol treatment centers will assess the need for treatment similarly.  There are a few simple questions to determine if your relationship with alcohol is heading down a bad road.

  1.  Are you drinking on a regular basis to “feel normal” or to suppress emotions?
  2. Has alcohol caused you any grief in your life, such as a job loss or failed relationship?
  3. Is alcohol starting to affect your health?

A simple “yes” to one or more of the questions listed above might mean that you should consider researching alcohol rehabilitation centers in your area.  If you’re in Texas, know that you’re just one state away from a facility that can assist you in the difficult journey of alcohol rehab.  For many, seeking treatment outside of your “home” community and familiar environment can provide a great start on the road to recovery.

Do Clues to Addiction Live in Your Brain?

Vista Taos - Monday, October 18, 2010

Scientists in Stockholm, Sweden reported this week that lab tests are confirming why people who used cocaine are more likely, even after long-term sobriety to relapse.  Basically, drugs such as cocaine “hijack” the brain’s reward system.  Researchers believe they have identified the specific molecule in the human brain that can lead to relapse.  The study was conducted on mice. Those that lacked the “addiction” receptor were less likely to want to consume cocaine after having it taken away from them.  These are interesting findings that could mean new and different treatment methods for addiction in the future.

Until more research is done on the specific parts of the brain that may lead to addiction, a rehabilitation center can still provide you or your loved one with exceptional care.  Rehab clinics like Vista Taos are constantly researching the innovative breakthroughs that science is suggesting may help with addiction.  And while science contributes to sobriety, there is something to say about a rehabilitation center that takes a more natural approach.  The study mentioned earlier talked specifically about cocaine, but prescription pill abuse is up 400%.  Major cities in southern states are seeing the fastest increase of pain pill abuse.  In Texas, these are cities like Houston (which is the 4th largest in the country) and the Dallas metro area (including Forth Worth) experiencing growing prescription drug abuse problems.  Vista Taos is a rehabilitation center located north of Santa Fe and incorporates group and individual counseling with holistic approaches to promote wellness.

Until science pinpoints the exact molecule in the body that causes us to have addictions, consider a rehabilitation center like Vista Taos.

Treatment Before Incarceration

Vista Taos - Monday, August 23, 2010

Addiction takes many forms.  Users often do not comprehend the hold their habits have on them.  Waves of denial blind addicts, thinking they are in control of the situation, but they are in fact, very wrong.  The steps towards recovery seem difficult or almost impossible for them to reach.  If you or a loved one are battling addiction and are in the Texas area, consider residential drug treatment as the best choice for recovery.

It’s usually only a matter of time before the addiction catches up to the user.  Drug abuse often leads to legal problems.  You don’t have to let it put you behind bars.  As reported by the U.T Center for Social and Behavioral Science:  drug use (specifically heroin and other opioids) is “increasing 61 percent and admissions of persons in their twenties has increased 71 percent between 2005 and 2009.”  These shocking numbers are just reporting about the Dallas metro area.  Texas drug problems are escalating quickly.  Residential drug treatment for Texans struggling with addiction may be the only way to save these young peoples’ lives.

It is certainly understandable how going through heroin or other Opioid detoxification in jail can be a lot less desirable than if you entered a residential drug treatment program.  Detoxification from heroin or other opioids can be very difficult. Side effects from the drug leaving the body can be painful and it is advised to be under good medical care during the process. Users may experience seizure activity during the detox phase.  Detox can be safe and rather comfortable in the care of a compassionate staff with medical expertise.

Texas residential drug treatment programs may be available, but none can offer the same healing environment that Vista Taos can, located in beautiful northern New Mexico.  Successful primary treatment, a traditional 30-day program and extended care programs will help users end their addiction and start anew.  Extended care treatment will continue to build upon the knowledge received in primary treatment and further enhance daily living and coping skills.  Ongoing treatment can help by making the stress of returning to your home environment a little less anxiety provoking.  Before your addiction or your loved one’s addiction ends up putting them behind bars, get help quickly.  You don’t have to fight the battle alone.  Vista Taos Renewal Center’s residential drug treatment program is here to help you through the journey.

Learning to Forgive: Moving through Drug Rehabilitation

Vista Taos - Thursday, August 19, 2010

When substance abuse finally brings a user to drug rehabilitation, many things have to happen in order for treatment to be a success.  One of these things is self-forgiveness.  Until you learn to love and forgive yourself for your mistakes, you cannot move on.  Forgive yourself and allow your mind and spirit to begin the healing process.  Then you can move forward and patch relationships that were damaged by addiction.  Forgiving yourself may also mean giving permission to leave some relationships behind you.

Just a few short months ago, Houston Texas police interrupted a major drug ring.  Coming from Mexico into Texas and then to pre-determined routes all over the rest of the United States, methamphetamine and cocaine dealers were finding buyers in the state of Texas all too easily.  Because of its location to Mexico, drugs often make their first stop in Texas.  It’s no surprise that the drug problems in Texas are growing at alarming rates.  This drug bust took two tedious years to plan and execute and yielded a graveyard of garbage bags filled with drugs taken off the streets.  However, it’s just a drop in the bucket to stopping the drug rings that provide an ongoing supply to addicts in Texas.  Drug rehabilitation centers have been working hard to develop sincere and successful treatment options for those battling an addiction to drugs.  Drugs, alcohol and the ever-growing prescription drug problem that is taking the country by storm are being looked at by professionals who are determined to present a solution.

Just a state away, Vista Taos Renewal Center located in Taos, New Mexico, provides drug and alcohol addiction treatment services to those seeking a new start.  If you’re in Texas and are ready to begin the path to forgiveness and recovery, please contact the expert staff at Vista Taos.  Drug addiction does not go away by itself.  It habitually has a very unhappy ending.  Seek treatment at a reputable drug rehabilitation facility.  ‘To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.’ ---Lewis B. Smedes

Drug and Alcohol Abuse in Texas

Vista Taos - Monday, August 16, 2010

The SAMHSA, Office of Applied Studies released a national survey map showing drug and alcohol abuse numbers in Texas.  According to the 2006-2007 (most current) survey posted, Texas is reporting that 5.2% - 6.99% of persons aged 12 and older have used illicit drugs within the recent months of the survey.  For binge alcohol drinking, Texas ranks higher at 22.8% - 24.3%.  Because of the recent recession, many Texans are still facing unemployment.  General studies show that alcohol and drug use will increase in times of struggle.  With financial stability being an issue, many find it difficult to enter drug and alcohol treatment centers to receive help.  The cost and lack of payment plans available often drive those who need help away and back into their world of addiction.

Drug and alcohol treatment centers should be willing to work with patients who need help.  Money should be something that can be discussed and comfortable payment arrangements should be a possibility.  It’s important that people know they have options for entering addiction therapy.  Options are the path recovery.

Where Can You Go?

If you live in Texas, you’re in close proximity to one of the best drug treatment centers, just a short distance away in Taos, New Mexico.  Vista Taos Renewal Center is a short plane ride from the Dallas area, located about 85 miles north of Santa Fe.  Vista Taos uses a variety of educational, therapeutic techniques and holistic approaches to help patients begin their recovery. Patients will receive exceptional service and compassion, as well as a meaningful treatment experience.  Drug and alcohol treatment centers like Vista Taos are helping patients move beyond their addiction and begin a new life.
